Gangnam District (Head Yeon-hee Shin) participated for the second time after last year in the Gulf Information Technology Exhibition 2011 (GITEX 2011) for five days from October 9 with seven outstanding IT related small and midsized companies from Gangnam in order to expand their exports to the African market and recorded consultation worth US$ 62.756 million (844 transactions) and contracts worth US$ 5.3 million (225 transactions).

This is a 196 percent increase in the number of consultations and 160 percent rise in consulted amount since last year. The GITEX exhibition team reached such good records thanks to enhanced trust in Korean products locally called KOREE from the construction of Burj Khalifa (world’s highest building, 124 floors) by Samsung Engineering and Construction and heightened interest in the information and communication fostering policy of the Arab Emirates.

As such, the buyer matching program and online publicity (support for publicity abroad, Web publicity) pursued by Gangnam District before the exhibition as advance marketing activities have shown to have positively influenced the results.

The seven companies participating in the GITEX 2011 included Any Frame, a media design company which showcased ‘Interactive 3D AR Screen;’ Digent, a total solution supplier of fingerprint readers, which has developed and showcased its own fingerprint information algorithm; AJ World, which has showcased various equipment to install and repair optical cables; Eye Car Networks, which has showcased a black box observer series for automobiles; Linkflex which has showcased fingerprint reading terminals and check readers; With CNS, which has showcased multi-organizing containers for desks; and Sky Music Light producing scroll type LED TVs; drawing the attention of numerous buyers.

In addition, the team managed a common hall with the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) to publicize Gangnam’s exhibition convention facilities and medical tourism. About 3,000 people visited the hall during the five days of the exhibition.

An official from the Marketing team of Gangnam District who participated in the event said,  “The companies participating in the exhibition achieved better export consultations than expected and are very pleased with the results. We will continue to build the foreign marketing support system to support outstanding small and midsized companies equipped with technology to open new markets abroad.”

GITEX 2011 is the third largest exhibition on information and communication in the world with about 3,500 companies from 65 countries, including the United States, France, United Kingdom, Germany, China and Hong Kong, participating. It is the largest exhibition on information and communication in the Middle East and Africa.

The Dubai International Convention & Exhibition Centre is open throughout the year except for Ramadan and GITEX is one of the big three exhibitions held with all 13 halls opened. During the exhibition, conferences and meetings related to information and communication were held alongside.
