Korea Development Institute (KDI) CID has published ‘From Despair to Hope: Economic Policymaking in Korea 1945-1979′, a translation of memoir by Kim Chung-yum, the former Chief Presidential Secretary. KDI has reorganized and translated the original memoir published in Korean on 2006 targeting overseas readers.

‘From Despair to Hope’ is highly valuable containing main economic policies he made during his all career for almost 35 years. In particular, he deals with main policies led Korea’s hypergrowth including the First and the Second Currency Reforms, export-oriented industrialization policies of the 1960s, the Saemaul Undong (New Village Movement), the reforestation of the mountains, the construction of expressways, the defense industry and heavy chemical industry promotion he had involved directly and indirectly.
